‘dys’ in Greek means ‘bad’, ‘disordered’, ‘difficult’, which is unfortunately how many of my students feel before coming to me.
‘distinct’, means ‘recognisably different in nature from something else’, which is also how my learners often feel.
Yet, ‘distinction’ means ‘excellence that sets someone or something apart from others’. That is how I will help you or your child to feel after working with me.
I can start by using evidence-based literacy and numeracy screening tools. From there, we can highlight key areas for intervention. Then, further assess cognitive abilities to identify strategies needed to support likenesses to dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia and other neurodivergent profiles. I use support programs to improve outcomes using intervention tools and strategies.
About Me
I am Georgie, a qualified teacher, dyslexia specialist and author (link to My Books page) with a passion for supporting neurodiverse learners. I’ve taught in schools both at home and abroad for over twenty five years with a focus on the neurodivergent.
I have trained educators, parents and carers to better understand and teach those who learn differently to the typical.
I founded Dystinction.Education, to give online support and tutoring to those who have educational needs beyond mainstream education. I also continue to tutor on the Dyslexia Course for the Institute of Child Education and Psychology (ICEP) and I am a consultant for Therapix.io.
You may also find me on the odd podcast designed to support those in the neurodivergent world.
Too many people lose out on the support that they need because they are waiting for a diagnostic assessment.
A diagnosis for dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, ADD/ADHD and others, can be important but intervening to meet yours or your child’s needs is essential. The earlier, the better.
No one should be feeling that their distinction from others is negative. I am here to help in many ways.
I can screen, assess, evaluate and recommend the next steps forward. Intervention should be affordable and supportive whilst also being positively impactful.
Parents and/or adult learners can complete a short screener to see if there are signs of dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, or ADHD. These help to indicate specific learning differences. All age groups can access the screener tests.
Find out more about yours or your child’s learning needs with detailed assessments. These tests help me and you understand how you or your child learns best and what support they might need. Background history is key!
Give you or your child the help they need with specific teaching methods and tools. I offer one-on-one and small group sessions to help you or your child succeed in school and in life. This is mainly online but if you’re local, it is also possible to have face to face sessions.
Georgie is the best teacher, she’s so good at explaining things and making up fun stories to help remember spellings and rules, she makes me feel happy when I work with her , and is very kind even when I forget things. I always feel better about myself, reading and spelling when we’ve worked together, she’s really kind and wants the best for me.

Georgie has worked with 3 of our children over the last number of years. Georgie has made them realise they are not ‘stupid,’ as they thought they were, but that they need to learn and look at school work in a different way to learn and explore. She has given them confidence we thought they would never have. I highly recommend Georgie and the work she does. We appreciate the work she does everyday.

“I have been going to Georgie for four years. I was always scared of spellings and hated doing spelling tests in school. Learning the rules with Georgie has helped me to understand how much fun spellings can be. Now my favorite thing in school is spellings :)”.
